Petronas contributes hand sanitisers to old folks home and schools

KOTA KINABALU: PETRONAS, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm Yayasan PETRONAS, is contributing 4,650 litres of hand sanitisers to 18 schools in Sabah and Labuan as well as an old folks home in Tuaran near here on May 18.

A total of 50 litres of hand sanitisers was delivered to The Hope Village in Tuaran while the remaining 4,600 litres will be distributed to five schools in Tuaran, six in Kimanis, three in Sipitang and four in Labuan.
   
General Manager of PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Rokiah Sulaiman said: “This is part of our on-going CSR effort to provide assistance to the communities in Sabah and Labuan.

“We  have identified schools and an old folks home near our areas of operations this time around.”

Chief Executive Officer of The Hope Village Clarence Fu Tze Kong said: Petronas contribution will be very helpful to us. Although we still have some hand sanitisers, the supply is limited. With this, our supply for the next three months is ensured.”

The Hope Village, located near to PETRONAS’ Sabah Gas Terminal in Kg Gayang, was founded in 2015, and currently houses 43 senior citizens aged between 51 and 97. 

Fu said the home has been observing strict hygiene practices to keep possible infections at bay, including practicing social distancing among its residents, as well as encouraging regular hand- washing and sanitising. 

The hand sanitiser donation is part of Yayasan PETRONAS’ RM20 million contribution of medical equipment and supplies to hospitals and healthcare front-liners as well as to the communities across the country in helping them mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Apart from The Hope Village, Yayasan PETRONAS has also distributed hand sanitisers to seven other old folks’ homes in Johor, Kedah, Melaka, Perak, Sarawak, and Terengganu.

The Foundation had previously contributed 14 intensive care unit beds to hospitals in Sabah and Labuan.

More recently, Yayasan PETRONAS, in collaboration with PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, contributed essential food items to 1,000 B40 households in Tuaran, Kiulu, Kimanis, Beaufort, Ranau, Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna, Sandakan, and Labuan under PETRONAS’ signature Sentuhan Kasih programme in conjuction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Kaamatan celebrations.
