Former director Dr Christina contained two waves of Covid-19 in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP’s Ginger Phoong described Datuk Dr Christina Rundi as a brilliant, dedicated and committed health professional.

The Luyang state assemblyman said it was a wonderful experience working with the former Director of Sabah Health Department.

“I have been working closely with her for the past few months to facilitate vaccine appointments for senior citizens that have been waiting for months.

“Dr Christina was very helpful and efficient in such arrangements despite vaccines running low in Sabah recently,” he said in his Facebook post.

Phoong said under Dr Christina’s leadership, Sabah managed to contain two waves of outbreak.

“We need an experienced captain in this field just like Datuk Dr Christina as she clearly knows all the procedures in the department and she have already lead us through two waves of outbreak in Sabah.

“The transfer is inappropriate as the pandemic is still severe. It is unwise to transfer her as we are still combating against this pandemic,” he said, referring to her transfer to the federal following Dr Christina being replaced by former KKM Head of the Vector -Borne Diseases Sector Dr Rose Nani Mudin.

Phoong urged the federal government especially the Director General, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah to explain such transfer whether there was any political interference involved.

“This is very fishy and Sabahans deserve an explanation while we are still facing several serious issues such as insufficient supply of vaccine in the state.”
