KOTA KINABALU: Sacred Heart Cathedral Kota Kinabalu here will not have physical masses yet.
Its parish priest in a Facebook post was responding to the government’s announcement on easing the restrictions in the social sector including religious activities for fully vaccinated people.
“At the advice of our parish health team, after much deliberation has decided not to rush with the reopening of the church for physical Masses.
“Given the current situation and as the number of daily infections continue to rise in the state, it would be unwise to rush for immediate reopening of the church as it may create a health hazard for everyone.
“We will therefore update you on any further developments pertaining to the reopening of the church for Holy Masses. Your understanding is very much appreciated.”
The Cathedral also asked its members to continue to follow the daily and Sunday Holy Masses via its live streams.
“For parishioners who have yet to register for their vaccination, please do so as soon as possible as it will contribute to easing the current situation and help our already overburdened health system.”
