KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has recorded 216, 319 metric tonnes of fish landings worth RM1.34 million in the state in 2021, said state Fisheries director Azhar Kassim.
He said 53.31 per cent of the total landings in Sabah was contributed by subsectors of the fishery.
“Of course, all of that was contributed by 30, 578 fishermen who were supported by the 17, 757 vessels.
“In 2022, the Fisheries department has deployed 153 artificial reefs at six locations at the coastal area of Sabah.
“Apart from that, the department has also given payao and unjam to selected fishermen as fish aggregating devices with hope to increase fish catch to ensure food security,” he said in a speech during a recent Memorandum of Understanding signing with Petronas.
