KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) will consider climate change factor into its Kota Kinabalu City Master Plan 2023-2030 (KK Plan 2030).
The masterplan would have six main agendas including the provision of public infrastructure, environmental sustainability, socio-economic prosperity, smart cities, digital and industrial transformation, arts and culture inclusion and governance excellence.
DBKK mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said there are more than 70 stakeholders directly involved in the development planning of Kota Kinabalu City.
“This city needs to be developed in a balanced way and include an element of inclusivity.
“It means that every development idea needs to be planned in an orderly manner so as not to conflict with aspects of safety, ecosystem balance, or things that can hinder economic development.
“In facing climate change that is increasingly becoming unpredictable, Kota Kinabalu City has to be more aggressive in implementing various initiatives to address and adapt its effects.
“We are also preparing and documenting the Kota Kinabalu City Carbon Footprint in a more systematic manner in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030,” she was quoted in a statement.
Yesterday, she launched the KK Master Plan Framework 2023 – 2030 Series 1 Session here. Present were DBKK director-general Junainah Abbie and deputy director-general (Planning & Development) Abdul Manaf Rajikan.
Noorliza added that the plan would be used to combine all existing action plans as reference for all departments and agencies in developing the state capital. The masterplan is expected to be completed by June this year.
