North Borneo Race is to explore the city’s historical sites and landmark.

KSRun Athletics Club, a running organization based in Kota Kinabalu, is set to organize an exciting game race in September that will highlight historical buildings and sites in the city.

The North Borneo Race is limited to only 70 teams, each consisting of four people. Participants in the race will embark on a nostalgic journey, deciphering riddles to get to the next checkpoint during the run.

Wendy John, the event organizer, recently briefed the Sabah Tourism Board chairman, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, about the upcoming race, for which 20 teams have already registered.

According to Joniston, the race fits well with the new Sabah destination logo, ‘Feel Sabah, North Borneo,’ and he believes that an event of this nature could draw participants from other states and tourists.

Kota Kinabalu is home to several historical landmarks that not everyone knows about. The North Borneo Race is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about the city’s past while enjoying a fun and exciting race.

The Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment also said holding the race in September is ideal because it coincides with the celebration of Malaysia Day.

Wendy stated that participants in the North Borneo Race would have to find their way in the city and interact with locals. She revealed that the race was originally supposed to take place in June but was moved to September in conjunction with Malaysia Day. The official date for the event will be announced on the organization’s social media.

During the race, teams will face physical and mental challenges that emphasize parts of the location’s culture and history. The teams will travel by car and on foot throughout the race. The winning team will receive RM3,000, while the first-runner up and second-runner up will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000, respectively.

The North Borneo Race is an exciting opportunity for participants to explore the city’s historical sites and landmarks, learn about its rich culture and history, and interact with locals while having fun.
