KUCHING: In a groundbreaking development, Rolls-Royce has furnished X-FAB Sarawak, the Malaysian arm of the esteemed X-FAB foundry group, with four of its state-of-the-art mtu Kinetic PowerPacks.

These dynamic uninterruptible power supply (DUPS) units are set to fortify the critical power load for operations at X-FAB Sarawak’s manufacturing site nestled in the heart of Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Engineered to excel even under the most arduous power supply challenges, the mtu Kinetic PowerPacks offer immediate, top-tier power delivery through the utilization of kinetic energy.

Unlike conventional UPS setups that rely on batteries, these units boast a significantly smaller footprint and are eco-friendly, boasting a lifespan exceeding 20 years and the ability to run on sustainable fuels like HVO.

Ltd., underscored the paramount importance of reliable power supply, especially for a high-output enterprise like X-FAB Sarawak, which churns out critical products consistently while supporting a myriad of employees and corporate functions.

The X-FAB Sarawak facility is pivotal in the semiconductor industry, manufacturing cutting-edge semiconductor wafers catering to automotive, industrial, and medical sectors.

With over 1,400 dedicated employees and diverse operations spanning finance and procurement, the site stands as a beacon of innovation and excellence.

The newly installed mtu Kinetic PowerPacks, boasting a medium voltage, parallel system configuration offering 2000 kVA (1600kW), replace outdated DUPS units from a different manufacturer.

These units were plagued by persistent issues, including dropping critical loads from the mains.

The mtu Kinetic PowerPacks leverage a choke system to compensate for short-term current and voltage fluctuations in the power grid, ensuring seamless operation even during grid instability.
